What do Australian Touch Football representative, Gavin Shuker, Olympic Gold Medal winning cyclist, Anna Meares, five time world Hockey player of the year, Jamie Dwyer and Tennis great, Rod Laver have in common?
For the next six weeks their sporting achievements will be on display in the ‘Sporting Heroes – Legends Of Sport From Central Queensland’ exhibition at the Rockhampton Art Gallery.
Former Australian Men’s Open captain, Gavin Shuker, has been recognised for his outstanding efforts on the Touch Football field, being chosen as one of the athletes displayed in the exhibition.
Shuker has 68 Australian Caps and 20 State of Origin Caps for Queensland. 36 of his Australian Caps come from four World Cup campaigns, including three World Cup titles; two at the Men’s Open level in 2003 and 2007 and the most recent coming from the Men’s 30’s division at the 2011 World Cup in Edinburgh, Scotland. Shuker was named the Australian Men’s Open captain in 2005 and retired at an Open level following the 2009 Trans Tasman Series in Wollongong. He has since continued to represent Australia playing in the Men’s 30’s division at the 2010 Masters Trans Tasman Series and 2011 World Cup.
The display can be seen at the Rockhampton Art Gallery and the exhibition will run until Sunday, 7 October 2012. .
